Sergio Nozawa, Consultant, Intrexon

Dr. Nozawa is currently a consultant with Intrexon where he is leading Regulatory and Government Affairs initiatives in Brazil.  Intrexon is focusing on the development of novel crop and animal technologies—including GM insect, fish, and livestock technologies– to improve agricultural productivity and sustainability.  Prior to this role, Sergio worked at Dow AgroSciences as Brazil Biotechnology Regulatory Leader where he was responsible for managing and implementing comprehensive regulatory field testing and related strategies aligned with Dow’s ag biotech portfolio. Sergio was also a researcher and main coordinator at the National Institute of Amazon Research (2012) where he worked on RNAi, DNA sequencing, plant molecular biology, genetics and –omics (genomics, proteomics and transcriptomics). Sergio is widely regarded as a regulatory expert for innovative ag technologies given his significant experience with global regulatory systems around the world including China, Africa and the Mercosur region. Sergio holds a Bachelor´s degree in Chemistry from the University of Sao Paulo (1996), with a concentration in biotechnology. He also received an MSc. in Biochemistry and Immunology from the School of Medicine at The University of Sao Paulo (1998), and a PhD. in Molecular Biology and Genetics from the Institute of Cell and Molecular Biology at Oporto University (2002).  He was also a postdoctoral fellow at The School of Medicine at the University of Sao Paulo where he focused on Genetics and Bioinformatics (2004).
