BSc in Biological Sciences at the Federal University of Santa Catarina – UFSC (1981-1985) and PhD in Parasitology at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (1989-1993). Full Professor of Parasitology at the Department of Microbiology, Immunology and Parasitology and at the Biotechnology and Biosciences Postgraduate Program – UFSC. CNPq Research Fellow. Coordinator of the Postgraduate Program in Biotechnology and Biosciences; Leader of the Research Group in Immunobiology at UFSC. Founding Member of Research Network Natural Products against Neglected Diseases (ResNet NPND); President of Southern Brazilian Biotechnology Network – SulBiotec. Research interests are related to human protozoology and experimental chemotherapy, with special emphasis in trypanosomes, Chagas disease, leishmaniasis and new trypanocidal and leishmanicidal agents from natural and synthetic products. Advisored: 20 masters students; 8 PhD; published 116 scientific articles and 20 book chapters.
